PROJECT STATUS: Plan to file an application with the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin in fall 2025.
Project Overview
ATC is proposing to build a new, double-circuit power line and a new substation in Ozaukee County. This project was requested by ATC’s customer, We Energies, through a Load Interconnection Request.
Project Description
New power line construction – A new, double-circuit, 345,000-volt power line starting just to the east of State Highway 57 in the town of Saukville and generally running east to near the intersection of Lake Drive and Highland Drive in the town of Port Washington. State law requires ATC to propose two route options for this proposed power line.
- Preferred route – An approximately 3.5-mile-long power line with a starting point just to the east of State Highway 57 and just to the west of County Highway KK in the town of Saukville. From there, the route continues straight east to the proposed new substation site.
- Alternative route – An approximately 3.8-mile-long power line with a starting point just to the east of State Highway 57 in the town of Saukville. From there, the route runs east along Hawthorne Drive, turns briefly southeast along County Road H, and then finally heads east to the proposed new substation site.
New substation – A proposed new substation would be built just to the south of the intersection of Lake Drive and Highland Drive in the town of Port Washington, located approximately 3 miles to the north of the city of Port Washington.
Project Need
The proposed project is needed to support anticipated load growth in the Port Washington area. The Public Service Commission of Wisconsin is the regulatory agency with the authority to approve or deny the project. This project requires a Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity from the PSCW.
