ATC and Milwaukee Bucks kick off 2023-2024 NBA Math Hoops season
ATC and the Milwaukee Bucks are kicking off the 2023-2024 season of the NBA Math Hoops in Wisconsin. Fourth through eighth grade mathematics educators are encouraged to register for the free and fun program and training camp.
NBA Math Hoops, powered by ATC, is a fast-paced, basketball-based educational board game and mobile app that follows a 10-16-week curriculum and is designed to engage fourth to eighth grade students while developing fundamental math skills through the game of basketball. The Math Hoops curriculum is tied to best academic practices established by the Common Core State Standards and 21st Century Skills.
“We’re excited to partner with the Milwaukee Bucks to bring the NBA Math Hoops program to Wisconsin students,” said ATC president and CEO Teresa Mogensen. “ATC wants to get young people excited about science, technology, engineering and mathematics opportunities in the energy industry and empower them with the skills they need to succeed. Math Hoops helps improve students’ fundamental math skills while playing a game and having fun. We think that’s a win for Wisconsin educators and students.”
Improves student math scores
Math Hoops has been shown to improve students’ grasp of statistics and interpersonal skills, helping them to collaborate more effectively with their peers. An appreciation and understanding of math helps students become passionate, self-directed learners, and sets them up for success in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
Last season, nearly 10,000 Wisconsin students played 93,840 games and solved over 13.8 million math problems. Students who participated last year showed a 30% improvement in their math testing scores from the year before.
