South 43rd St. Underground Power Line Rebuild Project

ATC is replacing 2.2 miles of an aging 138-kilovolt underground power line between the Lincoln Substation (north of the Kinnickinnic River) and West Howard Ave. This line is a critical part of the electric grid in southeastern Wisconsin. As part of the replacement of the existing line, the project will install new underground concrete-encased ducts that will house the new line.

The project also includes work at the Lincoln Substation. The substation supplies the surrounding area with a stable, reliable supply of electricity.

Project work will begin in mid-August 2025 and is expected to continue through 2027.

ATC will hold two in-person neighborhood information sessions about the project. Both will be held at the same location and will have the same format. There will not be a formal presentation at either. Please feel free to attend either session at any time.

The current underground power line is nearing the end of its useful life and, as a result, it is being replaced. Its replacement is part of ATC’s ongoing commitment to serving the Milwaukee area by reliably supplying energy to the region, ensuring the electric grid continues to maintain reliability and providing access to energy.
