Mullet River Area Reliability Project

ATC is proposing the Mullet River Area Reliability Project, which primarily consists of building a new substation and removing two existing substations in the Plymouth, Wisconsin, area. The project also includes reconfiguring and rerouting existing power lines into the new substation, building sections of new single-circuit and double-circuit power line, rebuilding a section of existing power line, and removing several small segments of power lines.

The project is needed to address the replacement of aging infrastructure and to ensure reliable service for the Plymouth, Wisconsin, area.

The project is subject to approval by the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin. In the future, additional information about the project can be found on the PSCW website, under docket number 137-CE-226.

  • Build a new substation – Build a new Nature Park Substation located near the intersection of County Road PP and South Highland Avenue.
  • Remove two existing substations – Remove the Mullet River and North Mullet River substations located along State Highway 67 near the intersection of South River Boulevard. Remove all the equipment from these two substations. Landscaping will be performed as needed after removal.
  • Reconfigure and reroute existing power lines – Reconfigure and reroute several power lines so that they can be connected into the new Nature Park Substation.
  • Build a new single-circuit power line – Build a new, approximately half-mile section of single-circuit, 69-kilovolt power line that runs from the new Nature Park Substation north along South Highland Drive to near the intersection with Valley Road. This new power line will connect the new substation into an existing 69-kV power line.
  • Build a new double-circuit power line – Build a new, approximately half-mile section of double-circuit, 138-kV power line that runs from the new Nature Park Substation south and then west. This new power line will connect the new substation to an existing 138-kV power line to the southwest.
  • Rebuild a section of existing power line – Rebuild approximately one mile of the existing 138-kV power line from a single-circuit to double-circuit, extending from the Mullet River Substation site to the new Nature Park Substation.
  • Remove small portions of power lines – Remove the 69-kilovolt power lines that run between the existing Mullet River and North Mullet River substations and a portion of 138-kV power line that runs over the new substation site.
  • Build small, connector sections of new single-circuit power line – Build two, small single-circuit, 138-kV power line sections to reconfigure the connection of an existing power line to the existing Plymouth Sub 2 Substation.

Project FAQ's

A:

The project is needed for asset renewal at the Mullet River and North Mullet Rivers substations. These existing substations are landlocked between State Highway 67 and the Mullet River, leaving no room for expansion or new infrastructure. Their replacement with a new substation, as well as other infrastructure upgrades in the area, will support safe and reliable operation of ATC’s system for the Plymouth, Wisconsin, area.

A:

The PSCW is the regulatory agency with the authority to approve or deny the project.
