PROJECT STATUS: Application to the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin anticipated in fall 2026.
Project Description
ATC is proposing the Bluemound-Elm Road Upgrade Project to upgrade two existing 230-kilovolt power lines to 345-kV in parts of Milwaukee, Waukesha and Racine counties. The preliminary route options for this upgrade are outlined below.
- The Rebuild Routes follow the existing 230-kV power line corridors from the Bluemound Substation, south through Milwaukee and Waukesha counties before turning east in Racine County and traveling to the Elm Road Substation.
- The Alternate Segments would be new power line corridors that would mostly follow highways, roads, railroads and other linear features and serve as alternate options to portions of the Rebuild Routes.
ATC is also proposing a new substation in the southwest corner of the Project that will connect to one of the upgraded power lines as well as existing 345-kV power lines in the area. ATC conducted a study that identified two potential substation sites (South Option and North Option) in and near the city of Muskego. If the Project is approved, only one of these sites will be selected by the PSCW and constructed by ATC. The substation stations are outlined below.
- Substation Site South Option is located near the northwest corner of the intersection of Kelsey Avenue and Crowbar Drive in the village of Vernon
- Substation Site North Option is located at the southeast corner of the intersection of Henneberry Drive and Crowbar Drive in the city of Muskego
Project Need
The Bluemound-Elm Road Upgrade Project will enable us to better serve the growing demand for electricity and connect to additional sources of power including renewable energy.
The project is subject to approval by the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin.
