ATC project to improve electric reliability for Green Lake, Fond du Lac counties

PSC approves 69,000-volt transmission line in area

MADISON, Wis. – American Transmission Co. has received approval from the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin to build a new 7-mile, 69,000-volt transmission line from the Fairwater Substation in Fairwater to the Mackford Prairie Substation in the Town of Mackford.

Additionally, 18 miles of 69-kV line from Ripon to County Road H north of Markesan will be retired. The project also will involve stringing new wires and replacing aging transmission poles with new steel poles on approximately 6 miles of 69-kV transmission lines in the area.

“The line was built in the 1950s and needs improvements to ensure electric reliability in the area,” said Jon Callaway, ATC local relations representative.

Construction is planned to begin in March 2016 to meet an in-service date of Sept. 2017. The estimated cost of the project is $24 million.

Additional details are available on the PSC website, psc.wi.gov, under Docket No. 137-CE-175.
