ATC names Bill Marsan as general counsel
PEWAUKEE, Wis. – William P. Marsan has been named executive vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary of American Transmission Co. effective Jan. 22, 2014. He will have responsibility for legal and state regulatory staffs at ATC.
Marsan has been with Indianapolis Power & Light Company since 2005, where he served as general counsel and corporate secretary, and led the federal regulatory, environmental, government affairs, security and project development teams. Prior to joining IPL, Marsan was a partner in the energy and public law practice at Troutman Sanders LLP in Washington, DC. He also has served as counsel and legislative director on Capitol Hill and as a litigator with Campbell & Associates in Boston.
Marsan began his legal career in the Navy Judge Advocate General’s Corps, where he served as trial counsel in more than 200 courts-martial. While on active duty, Marsan was awarded the Navy Achievement Medal and Navy Commendation. He was honorably discharged from the Naval Reserve as a lieutenant commander in 2001.
Marsan earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Boston College and Juris Doctor from George Washington University. He also completed the Leadership Development Program at the University of Virginia Darden School of Business.
