As vice president of compliance and risk management, Juanita Banks leads a broad, comprehensive program of audit, compliance and risk management activities in support of the company’s strategic plan. She is responsible for overseeing the company’s compliance with mandatory reliability standards that ensure the safe and reliable operation of the bulk electric system, establishing and maintaining leading practices in the execution of Internal Audit, Corporate Ethics & Compliance, Fraud Risk Management, Continuous Monitoring and Enterprise Risk Management program-related responsibilities. As the company’s designated compliance officer, Banks chairs the Policy & Ethics Committee and the Reliability Compliance Executive Committee and is responsible for establishing the governance structure and supporting programs to facilitate and monitor the company’s ongoing compliance status with applicable laws and regulations.
Banks began her career as a special agent with the Wisconsin Department of Justice in the division of narcotics enforcement, investigating drug trafficking in an undercover capacity. During the 1990s, she served as a corporate accountant and in various auditing capacities for three major Milwaukee-area companies.
Banks served as ATC’s manager of internal audit from 2001 to 2005. She left ATC to become the internal audit associate director at Protiviti Inc., an internal audit and business risk consulting firm. She rejoined ATC as director, internal audit and compliance, in 2010.
Banks earned a bachelor of business administration degree in accounting from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and holds several professional certifications: Certified Public Accountant, Certified Internal Auditor, Certified Risk Management and Assurance, and Certified Compliance and Ethics Professional.
