Project Updates
We filed an application for permission to build a new eight- or nine-mile power line in Door County, Wis. The Canal-Dunn Road project is needed to address electric reliability issues in the Sturgeon Bay, Egg Harbor and Sister Bay areas.
A new substation in Chippewa County, Mich., was placed in service last month. The Pine River Substation near Rudyard replaces an aging facility located on adjacent land.
Our representatives recently attended a meeting with Department of Energy officials and other utilities to learn about the negotiation process for smart grid awards. We are eligible for two awards totaling $12.7 million to extend use of phasor measurement units and fiber optic communications. To receive the awards, we will need to negotiate a contract with DOE that outlines reporting requirements and benefit documentation, among other metrics. Contracts are expected to be completed by Jan. 19, 2010.

About 350 megawatts of solar photovoltaic capacity was installed in the United States in 2008, but Solarbuzz, a solar energy research and consulting firm, estimates the US market will grow to 2,000 MW by 2012. Suntech Power Holdings, a Chinese solar panel maker, recently announced plans to build its first US plant in Phoenix, with initial production capacity of 30 MW a year starting in the third quarter of 2010.
Customer Connections - Interconnection Services Resources
We have posted updated versions of our Load Interconnection Guide and Generator Interconnection Guide on our external website. Use these documents as a resource to understand the process and requirements for interconnecting to our transmission system. We look forward to working with you collaboratively to support new or modified interconnections.
ATC in the Community
Employees in all our offices are getting into the holiday spirit with a variety of charitable collections underway. Our Kingsford employees are participating in the “Give a Kid a Book” program, which provides an age-appropriate book to each child enrolled in the local Giving Tree project. The De Pere office is once again adopting a family through the Salvation Army; this year, working on a wish-list from a young couple expecting their first child in February.
Pewaukee employees are collecting toys for the Waukesha Christmas Council and food contributions for Feed America-Eastern Wisconsin (formerly Wisconsin’s Second Harvest). Madison and Cottage Grove offices are working with Family Support & Resource Center, each adopting a family in need. The FSRC helps families with special-needs children.
