Project Updates

With the start of construction on the last two segments of line, the Gardner Park-Central Wisconsin/Morgan-Werner West project is nearly 80 percent complete.  Right-of-way clearing begins this month in the Embarrass and Clintonville areas of the Morgan-Werner West transmission line between Oconto Falls and New London. Construction continues in eastern Marathon County and western Shawano County on the Gardner Park-Central Wisconsin line that runs from Wausau to near Shawano. These two 50-mile, 345-kilovolt transmission lines will substantially reinforce the high-voltage electricity grid serving Central Wisconsin, the Fox Valley and Green Bay areas. Both projects are scheduled for on-time completion in December 2009.

Plans for a proposed two-mile, 161-kilovolt power line in Grant County have been cancelled after the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin denied the application for a new power plant at the Nelson Dewey plant site in Cassville.

Transmission line construction is often done during winter months when the ground is frozen to minimize impacts to the environment. This is especially true in sensitive wetland areas. We also make extensive use of wooden construction mats to minimize the impact of heavy machinery used to lift and install structures. On large projects, it may take several winter cycles to complete construction.

ATC in the community

Ho, ho, ho. We are helping spread holiday cheer in several communities this year.  The Oshkosh Community Foundation’s Celebration of Lights

features more than a mile of lights and displays in Menominee Park located along Lake Winnebago. We are sponsoring a lighted field of trees display. The event runs through Jan. 1. We also are helping to keep the holiday lights on in Madison at the Olin-Turville Park across from the Alliant Energy Center. This is the 20th anniversary of Holiday Fantasy in Lights, sponsored by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 159 and the National Electrical Contractors Association.

Support also is being given to local events in Green Bay and Crandon and to special television programs in Wausau and Milwaukee.
