ATC recently upgraded two 5-mile lines that connect the We Energies' Port Washington Generating Station to the Saukville Substation with larger conductors. The improvements were necessary to support the first of the two units being constructed at Port Washington Generating Station to convert the plant to a 1,200-megawatt combined-cycle facility fueled by natural gas.
Construction on the two 5-mile lines that connect Port Washington with the Saukville Substation was completed in May 2005. About 14 structures along the line were be replaced with single-pole structures. The wooden H-frame structures were replaced with stronger H-frame structures.
A related project completed in 2004 involved upgrades to the 22-mile line between Port Washington and the Range Line Substation in Glendale. Additional work is planned in 2007 to support the output of Port Washington Generating Station's second new unit.
At a glance Communities affected: Port Washington, Saukville; entire region benefits from added generating capacity needed in the area Length of line: Approximately 5 miles End points: We Energies' Port Washington Generating Station and the Saukville Substation Voltage: 138 kilovolts Type of pole: Steel single pole and wooden H-frame structures Status of project: Complete and in service
