Department reorganized
Earlier this year, we reorganized our Environmental Department into three sections:
- Project Permitting,
- Project Compliance and
- Fred (an environmental management system).
This reorganization recognizes the distinct requirements of obtaining permits and assuring compliance with permit and order conditions, and ensures that we maintain focus on development and implementation of procedures within Fred.
Terry Yakich has been promoted to Project Permitting team leader. Reporting to Terry are Nayo Parrett, Amy Lee and Jon Keener.
Joan Kozisek has been promoted to Project Compliance team leader. Michelle Stokes reports to Joan.
Matt Krumenauer is responsible for coordinating procedures within Fred and all maintenanc- related environmental support.
We also are in the process of adding a project manager in our Kingsford office and two project managers in the Madison office. In Madison, one project manager will be assigned to the permitting and the other to compliance team. Our intent is to rotate the project managers into the different groups to ensure they gain experience in both the permitting and compliance areas.
Employees active for Earth Day
Employees participated in several 2005 Earth Day activities. On April 21, our Madison employees built bird nesting boxes, installed these boxes and cleaned the wetland adjacent to their office building. On May 13, the Pewaukee employees were treated to a raptor demonstration by members of the Schlitz Audubon Nature Center. AscCenter representatives showed a bald eagle, kestrel, red-tailed hawk and several owls, they discussed each bird's habits. The demonstration was informative and appreciated.
To celebrate Earth Day, ATC is again offering Earth Day is Every Day t-shirts. This year's design, once again drawn by Environmental Manager Rita Hayen, is an Osprey. T-shirts are $8 each or two for $15 and come in small, medium, large, X large and XX large. Place your order through greenlines@atcllc.com
ATC applies for Green Tier status
ATC submitted an application in November 2004 to the Wisconsin Green Tier program. The program is administered by the DNR and is intended to provide opportunities for performance-based regulation for companies that have demonstrated compliance and activities that go beyond compliance. ATC's application focuses on five main areas related to major construction projects governed by orders from the PSC:
- Develop and implement construction standards
- Environmental stewardship – continuing current stewardship project approach and providing specific support for the Natural Resources Foundation’s state natural area funding
- Environmental advisory group – establishing an advisory group to provide third-party oversight, review and input as ATC implements provisions of its Green Tier agreement
- Audits and reporting – a readiness review will be completed at the beginning of the Green Tier participation supplemented with annual audits and reports to DNR.
- Continual improvement
A public informational meeting was held in Madison on March 15, 2005. The National Wild Turkey Federation provided positive comments on our application. ATC anticipates approval of its application.
