Carol Chinn joined American Transmission Co. in 2006 as the company's chief operating officer. Chinn is the lead executive responsible for ATC's system planning and system operations. She oversees the safe, reliable performance of the company’s $2.75 billion transmission system.
Prior to joining ATC, Chinn was with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission in the Division of Reliability in Washington, D.C., where she was involved with the implementation of the Energy Policy Act of 2005, developing policy to ensure the reliability of the United States electric grid, and supporting regulatory reforms for open access transmission.
Chinn formerly was president and chief executive officer of Georgia Transmission Corp., an electric transmission utility with more than $1 billion in assets. Prior to becoming CEO in 2002, Chinn served as GTC's vice president for system planning.
Chinn also spent 18 years at Florida Power & Light in various leadership positions within the Power Delivery and Distribution business units. Chinn currently serves on the Board of Directors for both the Reliability First regional entity and North American Transmission Forum. She is IOU sector representative on the North American Electric Reliability Corporation Member Representative Committee. She is an active participant on various Edison Electric Institute committees, serving as chair of the STEP Executive Committee, a member of Business Executives for National Security and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers
Chinn earned a bachelor's degree in environmental engineering from the University of Florida at Gainesville, a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from the University of Miami, and a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Florida at Gainesville.
