Bert Garvin

Robert (Bert) Garvin joined American Transmission Co. in 2009 as vice president, general counsel and corporate secretary. He oversees all operational legal, compliance and regulatory matters relating to ATC. Additionally, as secretary of the company, Garvin is responsible for matters relating to corporate governance, interactions with the board of directors, compliance and related regulatory matters associated with ATC's status as a legal entity.
Prior to joining ATC, Garvin served as vice president of regulatory affairs for NextEra Energy Resources, a subsidiary of FPL Group, in Juno Beach, Fla., where he was responsible for developing strategy and directing state regulatory and legislative advocacy efforts in 26 states. He also served as senior attorney in the FPL Law Department.
Prior to joining NextEra, Garvin served as a commissioner on the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin. He was elected vice president of the Organization of MISO States. Garvin also served on the board of directors of the National Association of State Regulatory Commissioners and chaired its Nuclear Waste Subcommittee.
While on the PSC, Garvin was called to active duty and deployed as a staff judge advocate with the U.S. Army 3rd Corps Support Command, 40th Corps Support Group and returned from Iraq in September 2006.
Earlier in his career, Garvin was manager of legal and government affairs for Wisconsin Public Power Inc., and he was an associate attorney for Murphy and Desmond in Madison, Wis.
Garvin is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin and received his law degree from the University of Wisconsin.
